Tiers Payant with PID

What is Direct Immediate Payment (DIP)?

The PID is the CNS’s most modern reimbursement system, officially deployed since March 19, 2024 for and doctors in Luxembourg.

It replaces the old system, where patients had to pay the full cost upfront, then wait several weeks for reimbursement from the CNS.

With PID, the process is fully automated and instantaneous:

  • During your consultation, your dentist records the procedures performed in his CNS-approved software.
  • Data is transmitted in real time to the Caisse Nationale de Santé via a secure connection.
  • The CNS validates and makes an instant transfer directly to the firm’s account in a matter of seconds.
  • You pay only your personal share (ticket modérateur) on site.
  • You receive a summary PID document that acts as your official invoice. No more advance payment. No more mailing to the CNS. No more waiting for reimbursement.

What you actually pay with PID

The CNS reimburses 88% of conventional rates for affiliated adults. You pay only the remaining 12% (the co-payment) and any supplements for personal convenience (materials outside the nomenclature).

Good to know: Each adult is entitled to an annual fee of €79.22 (as at 01.05.2025), covered 100% by the CNS. This means that part of your treatment is completely free each year.

For children and adolescents under the age of 18: conventional dental treatment is covered at 100% by the CNS.

Parents usually pay nothing for a check-up or routine care.

Which treatments are covered by the PID at Ares Dental?

Care covered – no advance payment

These documents are fully dematerialized via the PID :

  • Consultations – annual check-ups, emergency consultations
  • Professional descaling – cleaning and scale removal
  • X-rays – panoramic and retroalveolar views
  • Conservative care – treatment of cavities (composite fillings), simple extractions, root canals (endodontics)
  • Pediatric care – all routine care for children under 18, reimbursed at 100%.

Treatments requiring a prior estimate

Some more complex procedures require prior authorization from the Contrôle Médical de la Sécurité Sociale (CMSS) before the PID can be applied. We can take care of this for you:

  • Crowns and bridges – part is reimbursed on the basis of an estimate validated by the CNS
  • Orthodontics – alignment treatment subject to specific protocol with prior approval from the medical control board

Care not covered by CNS nomenclature (not reimbursed)

  • Dental implants – procedures outside the CNS nomenclature, not reimbursed by the CNS. You will receive a detailed invoice for your complementary health insurance, which may cover part of the cost (CMCM: €150/implant).
  • Cosmetic tooth whitening – procedure not medically indicated
  • Aesthetic veneers – out of nomenclature in most cases

PID and Tiers Payant Social: what's the difference?

These two devices are often confused – here’s the essential distinction:

  • PID (Direct Immediate Payment) is available to all CNS policyholders, regardless of income. This is what Ares Dental does. You simply pay your personal co-payment(12% for adults).
  • Tiers Payant Social (TPS) is a special scheme for people on low incomes, granted by your local social services office. It allows you to pay nothing at all – including your personal share – subject to certain conditions. It requires an attestation and a label booklet issued by your social office.

If you think you may be eligible for Tiers Payant Social, please contact your local social services office before your consultation.

The PID document: how to use it for your mutual insurance?

At the end of each PID consultation, Ares Dental provides you with an official summary document – the PID statement. This document :

  • Details the share paid by the CNS and the share paid by you
  • Contains all necessary procedure codes and amounts
  • Serves as the official invoice for your supplementary insurance
  • Does not need to be sent to the CNS – reimbursement at the surgery has already been made. Simply scan or forward this document to your mutuelle to obtain reimbursement of your personal share, without any further action.

You can also view details of your PID reimbursements at any time on MyGuichet.lu, the CNS online personal space.

PID for cross-border commuters: are you eligible?

Yes. The PID applies to all insured persons affiliated to the CNS – whether residents of Luxembourg or frontier workers (French, Belgian, German) working in Luxembourg and affiliated to the CNS.

If you work in Luxembourg, your dental treatment at Ares Dental is covered by the CNS via the PID – and those of your children too, at 100%.

Our administrative team will help you draw up the necessary documents for your complementary French or Belgian mutual insurance.

Do all dentists in Luxembourg offer PID?

No. The PID requires practice software approved by the CNS and a validated secure connection.

Ares Dental is one of the forerunners in the integration of PID in Luxembourg. Not all healthcare professionals have yet adopted it.

Before making an appointment with another practice, be sure to check whether they offer PID – if not, you’ll have to pay in advance and wait for reimbursement.

Why choose Ares Dental for your PID treatments?

  • As a precursor to PID in Luxembourg, we adopted this system as soon as it was deployed, to free you from any financial constraints.
  • Multidisciplinary team – stomatologists, periodontists, implantologists and orthodontists all under one roof. One practice for all your needs.
  • State-of-the-art technology – digital impressions (intraoral scanner), 3D CBCT imaging, pain-free anesthesia protocols.
  • Total transparency – clear, detailed estimates before any treatment. You know exactly what you are paying, what is reimbursed and what remains your responsibility.
  • Accessibility – two practices in Mamer and Strassen, 6 days a week, with or without appointment for emergencies. Multilingual team (French, Luxembourgish, English, German, Portuguese).
